Welcome back to another year at Georgetown! We have had a great summer with our families, but we are ready to get back into school. We hope you all had a fun and safe summer (and remembered to do your daily reading!).
We look forward to a great year and learning everyday with the kids.
If you haven’t already signed up, please subscribe to our blog for updates throughout the year.
See you soon!
Mrs. Reifschneider and Mrs. Katt
We hope that all of our students have a safe and happy summer vacation! Try to read every day and practice your math facts several times a week.
Back by popular demand, the library at GES will be open on Tuesday mornings this summer! The library will be open from 10am- 12pm through July. Come to check out some great books and to say hello to GES teachers.
Over the next few weeks we will post fun summer (or anytime) reading and writing activities from a variety of sources. We will be using several of these ideas with our own kiddos this summer to keep them reading and writing! From Knoxville Parent: Fun reading and writing ideas to do with your kids
From Scholastic’s website: Take reading outside
We are so proud of the great progress that students have made this year. However, that hard work can be forgotten over the summer without frequent practice. We strongly recommend tutoring to maintain the important skills that have been learned this year. Fortunately, there are fabulous teachers at Georgetown that are providing private tutoring. They have begun filling their schedules so contact them soon, so that you have this support in place for the summer.
**Our school library will also be open on Tuesdays this summer, 10:00-12:00. We will have leveled books available, as well as regular library books. Classroom teachers will be there to help your child find some great just right books!
Mrs. Van Houzen (the sixth grade resource teacher) will be at the sixth grade orientation night at Baldwin Middle School on April 28th at 7 pm. This will be a great opportunity to meet her and see her classroom and the sixth grade wing. She will also go over the information she presented at our meeting last month if you were not able to attend.
Here are some ideas for your family if you are sticking around the area for spring break. The West Michigan Tourist Association has ideas on their website for fun and educational trips around Grand Rapids (and beyond.)
The fifth grade teachers and I are starting to plan for our students’ transition to the middle school next year. Mrs. VanHouzen (the sixth grade resource teacher at Baldwin) will be visiting Georgetown next Friday morning (March 28th) at 10:00. She will be going over information about scheduling classes and the middle school resource program. Parents are welcome to attend this meeting. However, if you cannot make it we will send the information home with your child.
We will meet in the resource classroom directly across from the main entrance. If you plan on attending the meeting please let me know.
Thanks, Mrs. Katt
In honor of National Nap Day on Monday, March 10th we will have Georgetown Pajama Day! Wear your comfiest pajamas or sweats to school!
