Georgetown School Library Open This Summer!!

This summer, our school library will be open for students to check out books. On Tuesdays, 10:00-12:00, students can stop by school to check out books and visit with their favorite teachers. Research has shown that students who choose to read throughout the summer are more successful readers. Help to establish healthy reading habits and mark this on your calendars. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

5th grade Orientation

Despite the snow on the ground this morning, it is April and the end of the year is quickly creeping up on us!  If you have a 5th grade student, please keep updated on both the Georgetown blog and your child’s teacher’s blog for important dates.

Monday, May 2 at 7:00 is the Baldwin Middle School Orientation night.  This would be very beneficial for you to go and get questions answered.
Martha VanHouzen, the 6th grade resource room teacher, will be there and would love to have you come to her room to meet her and learn some more information about support available to your child.  After the opening with Mr. Powers please head directly to her classroom.  Her room is on the 2nd floor and is number 229.

If you have any other questions please let me know!

Thanks!

Mrs. Reifschneider

Math facts practice

It has been a great first week back!  I have had so much fun hearing about everyone’s Christmas break.

As we continue toward spring, the students all need to really work on practicing their math facts.  Having strategies for solving these and practicing to become more fluent.  This will help them in harder math concepts.  There are many ways that the students can practice.  They can use flashcards, one of the links I have for math practice, and there are now many apps if you have technology available to you at home for these.

1st and 2nd graders should be working on addition facts.

3rd grade should work on addition, subtraction and multiplication

4th and 5th should be working on multiplication and division

Keep practicing!

The HHS National Honor Society is sponsoring a stuffed animal drive in honor of their bravest and most inspiring hero, SPENCER MEYER!   Spencer is a pre-kindergarten student in our building who is battling cancer.  His parents are the Jason and Jodi Meyer–both teachers at Hudsonville High School.

The NEW stuffed animal drive will be going on throughout the month of January.  Please shop the holiday sales, find a stuffed animal that needs to be hugged and loved by a child patient at DeVos Children’s Hospital, deliver the new stuffed animal to the front lobby of Georgetown, and deposit it in the box by the front office.

Thank you for your support of the HHS National Honor Society, DeVos Children’s Hospital, the 100’s of recovering children who need these stuffed animals and SPENCER MEYER…our Georgetown hero!

We are sad to say goodbye to Miss Valentino after this week.  Next semester she will be finishing out her teaching degree by student teaching in a 3rd grade classroom in Chicago.  We are going to have a goodbye party for her this Thursday at lunch.  We will be providing pizza and drinks for the students so they will not need to bring or order a lunch this Thursday.

Thanks!

I had so much fun meeting with all of my students’ parents this week for conferences!  I just love being able to share all the wonderful things your children are doing and the progress each of them is making.  Thank you for taking the time to come in and chat with me.  I am truly blessed to work in such a wonderful school and with such great and supportive parents!

Thanks for sharing your children with me everyday!

New math websites to try!

I have added two new links in my Websites to Visit.

The first is called “Math Dictionary”.  If your child needs help with some math vocabulary or you are helping them with math homework and are unsure of a math word, go here and look it up!  The website will define the word for you as well as give a picture and/or examples.

The second is labeled math practice.  This is an online practice of math skills separated by grade level.  Pick your grade level and then it will give you a list of skills to pick from.  I think this would be an excellent practice for a skill that your child may be struggling with or as a practice before a test!

Check them out!
