What does Mrs. R. like to do?

I am Mrs. Reifschneider (Mrs. R.), and I think it is fun to hunt and learn about peoples’ hobbies!  As the years have passed my hobbies have changed a little.  However, there are two hobbies that have stuck with me since I was a young child.  Two of my favorite things to do are to travel and read!  My parents both like traveling and passed this love on to me as a young child.  I love traveling to other countries to learn about their culture, heading to tropical paradises for relaxation and even to just travel to the lake for a day of fun in the sun!  Reading is a hobby that is a little easier to do since you can do it anywhere!  There is nothing I love more than finishing off a long day curled up in bed reading a good book.  In the picture below you will find me doing both of my favorite hobbies.  I was relaxing and enjoying a beautiful Mexican coastal view while reading a mystery novel!  hammock

Take Home Book

The kids are off to a great year in my room!  It has been fun getting to know a few new faces and welcoming back students I had last year.

Just a reminder that if your child is in 4th grade, they should be bringing home their red take home folder with a book to read each day.  Their goal is to read AT LEAST 80 minutes a week at home.  I do pay them with money for our store for their efforts in reading.  If they aren’t consistently bringing home their folder please let me know!  Also, the time you write in doesn’t have to be limited to time they are reading only the book they brought from my room.  If they have a library book that they have read please add that time in as well.  Also, I have told them that if they get a magazine such as Sports Illustrated for Kids, they could also add that as their reading time once a week.  Just as long as they are doing some reading and not just looking at pictures!

I just added a new website that looks like a lot of fun!  It was designed by a 5th grade teacher, but he has added games for every grade level.  You can find the link on the right side.  For some reason it is under blog roll instead of websites and is labeled “Fun games by grade level”.  The students can pick a grade level and then a skill that they would like to work on to find a game.  There were all sorts of categories to choose from!  I just played one that worked on telling time that I thought was fun.

Welcoming Miss Barbieri

Filed under: Uncategorized — jreifsch at 10:14 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Starting on Monday Oct. 5, we will be welcoming Miss Ashley Barbieri into our classroom everyday.  Miss Barbieri is a student teacher from Hope College who is majoring in special education.  She has already had a semester of student teaching in a general education classroom last spring, and we are lucky to be having her join us through Christmas break to finish her schooling.  She will be working along side me to both learn and share great strategies she has been learning at Hope.  I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with Miss Barbieri in my classroom.  Look for a note from Miss Barbieri in your Friday Folder this Friday!

Mrs. Reifschneider’s Summer Vacation

Relax, chase, play, laugh, relax.  My family and I stuck close to home this summer just spending time together and relaxing.  We loved spending time together at the beach and visiting family.  The highlight of our summer was when we went camping at Warren Dunes State Park.  We stayed for 2 nights camping in a tent!  We had a great time climbing the huge dune and playing on the beach.  My girls are only 2 and 4, but they made it all the way to the top of the dune!  They thought it was even more fun though to run back down.  I hope you enjoyed your summer as much as I did!

Happy hunting!weko beach 2009

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to another great year at Georgetown!  I had such a great first day yesterday getting into classrooms and seeing so many smiling faces.  I am so excited for this new year!

This year I am working toward a lot of inclusion teaching.  My parapro, Karen Walenta, and I will be working alongside many of the general education teachers to support the students in their general education classrooms.  We will be pulling some groups into the resource room for short time periods for quiet work areas, reteaching and to make sure we work on their IEP goals.

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!

Here’s to a great start to the year!
